Often mistakenly referred to as “two headed”, diprosopus animals are characterized by a single skull with multiple faces (either partial or complete).
This is typically not the result of conjoined-twin formation but is a deformation of the SHH (Sonic Hedgehog) protein. SHH regulates the width and features of the face. When the width attribute reaches a certain size, duplication and mirroring can occur.
