Real shrunken sloth head for sale! This is a REAL shrunken sloth head, crafted by the Shuar peoples of Ecuador!

Traditionally this process was performed exclusively on slain warriors but, as the demand for these products grew with traders, they began to prepare them for the tourist trade.

Sloths were sometimes used as a substitute for a warrior, when their head was unable to be claimed in battle. They were also created as practice specimens, to sharpen one's skills for when a human head was to be prepared.

This shrunken head was on display at the Prehistoria Museum but has been de-accessioned to raise funds for our exhibit expansions and operation costs.

It was purchased from the collection of Ryan Matthew Cohn, a legendary collector who was a star of the TV show "Oddities".
