These are real Byzantine billon "cup" coins, minted in Constantinople for emperor Manuel I Komnenos in the 12th Century!

It has been heavily worn down with age. One side would have depicted Jesus Christ, while the other showed the bearded figure of Manuel I Komnenos, ruler of the Byzantine Empire from 1143-1180CE. 

Manuel I Komnenos oversaw the end of the "Komnenian restoration", during which his family's dynasty oversaw a resurgence of cultural, military and economic power. This restoration began in 1081, under Alexios I Komnenos.

This alloyed currency is often referred to as a "cup coin" due to the unusual depressed shape of the coinage.
