Real piece of the moon/lunar meteorite for sale!

Lunar meteorites were not brought back by Apollo astronauts - they are actually pieces of the moon blasted into space by meteor and asteroid impacts on the lunar surface! Some of those rocks get caught in Earth's gravity and fall down to our planet.

This particular specimen weighs an incredible 11.2g.

SCIENTIFIC DATA VIA METEORITIC SOCIETY:

Tisserlitine 006 21.434°N, 1.131°W

Gao, Mali

Find: 2023 Mar

Classification: Lunar meteorite (feldspathic breccia)

History: Found in Mali and purchased by Luca Cableri in July 2024.

Physical characteristics: The specimen lacks fusion crust and exhibits a light-gray exterior surface (light yellow-orange where caliche occurs).

Petrography: G. Pratesi (UniFi); A. I. Landi, X. Shehaj (UniFi and UniTn): The analyzed polished thick section displays a brecciated texture, primarily consisting of mineral fragments such as anorthite, olivine, pigeonite, augite, exsolved pigeonite, Mg-ilmenite, and Fe-Ti-Cr oxides, which are mainly composed of chromite-rich and ulvöspinel-rich end-member compositions. Additionally, kamacite, Fe-sulfide, minor SiO2, and barite are present. All the upper-mentioned mineral fragments are embedded within a vesiculated feldspathic matrix. Impact melt clasts, primarily composed of anorthite with small pyroxene and olivine grains, are frequently observed.

Geochemistry: G. Pratesi (UniFi); A. I. Landi, X. Shehaj (UniFi and UniTn): Mineral composition has been obtained by Electron Microprobe analyses. Orthopyroxene (Fs15.4Wo3.9, Fe/Mn = 58.1, n=3); augite (Fs15.6Wo34.4, Fe/Mn = 42.4, n=1); pigeonite (Fs26.3Wo11.9, Fe/Mn = 52.2, n=5); zoned olivine (core Fa12.3±1.3, Fe/Mn=81.9±5.2, n=2, to rim Fa23.9±3.1, Fe/Mn=82.2±5.1 n=2), olivine (Fa23.8±6.4, Fe/Mn=89.1 n=10); anorthite (An95.5±1.3, n=10), kamacite (Fe84Ni11, n=2), Mg-ilmenite (MgO= 7.0 wt.%, n=3), chromite (Chr~65 n=3), ulvöspinel-rich (Ulv~79 n=2).

Classification: Lunar feldspathic breccia, based on texture, mean Fe/Mn value in olivine, and high An values in plagioclase. Possibly paired with Tisserlitine 003, Tisserltine 005. Similar coordinates to Tisserlitine 003 and Tisserlitine 005. Tisserlitine 001 has a different longitude.

Specimens: 21 g including a resin-mounted sample at MSN-FI
