This is a real medieval Toulousian elongated skull!
While Peru is the most famous locale for cranial deformation, examples of elongation (both intentional and otherwise) can be found all around the world.
In this instance, this elongated skull is actually from the Toulouse region of France. It is believed that this region's deformations were a result of "bandeau" - an ancient medical practice that involved tightly binding and padding the head of a baby to protect it from impact shortly after birth.
