This is a real fossilized priscacara fish, excavated in Green River, Wyoming! It dates back between 53.5-48.5 million years before present. This plates measures ~8.5" long.
These are an extinct genus of perch that likely swam in schools.
Interestingly enough, this fish had begun to decompose but was interrupted by the fossilization process. This also explains the segment of scales that migrated above the head.
It was one of the first fossils ever prepared by Ben Lovatt, the head curator of the Prehistoria Natural History Centre.
