This is real Peruvian elongated mummy skin! Dating back to 800-100BCE, these artifacts of the Paracas culture would be a great addition to any collection!
These fragments of skin and hair (contained in 1.5" vials) were removed during the restoration process on an elongated skull. We can ship these worldwide!
In what is now the Ica Region of Peru, these peoples practiced cranial modification (cradle-boarding) on their infants to create abnormal skull development. This would typically be done between 1-6 months after birth when the human skull is most pliable.
It is believed that the altering of a child's head could be to denote higher status in a society or follow pseudoscientific beliefs that it would enhance the function of the brain.
