These are real Greek silver drachma coins, featuring King Antiochus III, the Great and an elephant on the reverse! Dating back between 204-197 BCE, these specimens would make a great start, or addition, to any collection.
Antiochus III was a Greek Hellenistic king and the sixth ruler of the Seleucid Empire. He lived from 241-187 BCE. He ruled over Syria and a large area of western Asia. Though his campaign to conquer Ptolemaic Egypt was a failure, his military campaigns were successful elsewhere.
Shortly before his death, he proclaimed himself "champion of Greek freedom against Roman domination" and launched a four year war against the Roman Republic, but was decisively defeated at the Battle of Magnesia. Three years later, he died during another campaign in the east.
