Gandhara was the ancient name for a region of northwest Pakistan nestled between the foothills of the Himalayas and the Hindu Kush mountain ranges.
Conquered by Alexander the Great in 330 BCE, and further influenced by later Indo-Greek kings and local trade routes, this area developed a very distinct artistic style.
