This is a real fossilized Hyaenodon cruentus skull from the Brule Formation of South Dakota!
They are called Hyaenodon due to their hyena-like dentition.
Dating back to the Middle Oligocene (~30 million years bp), these were important predators in their ancient ecosystems. They fed on a wide range of prey species, including primitive horses and the American camels.
They've even been shown to hunt other predators, with the skull of a Dinictis sabertooth exhibiting Hyaenodon tooth puncture marks.
This skull measures ~7" tall (including custom base) and is 6" long.
