This double sided piece of clay is engraved with the earliest known form of writing on the planet!
Dating back to the Third Dynasty of Ur (2112-2004BCE), the writer would etch these wet tablets with a stylus made of reed and then typically leave them out to naturally dry. This would allow the ancient author to rehydrate the tablet and recycle it into a blank slate. Important documents would be fired in a kiln to give them permanence.
This specimen is from the ancient Baghdad temple archives and is etched with administrative content and cylinder seal impressions. Talk about a piece of classic literature! It measures 3" tall and 1.75" wide and we can ship this incredible antiquity worldwide!
