This is an incredibly rare Tibetan Necromancer Kapala mask! This stunning piece of headwear is carved out of a human skull and skull fragments!

Traditionally these masks were crafted out of monk or other bones collected from "sky burial" sites, more formally known as charnels. Locally they are referred to by the Tibetan word "Jhator", which translates literally to "giving alms to the birds".

They have also been historically recorded as the "field of death" or the "valley of corpses".

According to lore, these masks would be used during Tantric ceremonies to invoke the spirits of the deceased.
