Dating back to the Roman Period (30BCE-1st Century CE) this is an authentic Ancient Egyptian mummy shroud!
This is the decorated linen that covered the face of an Egyptian mummy. It was covered in cartonnage and had a gold gilded face, crafted to stylistically resemble the deceased.
Though it has lost much of the original paint and decoration over the prior two millennia, the shape and decoration of the face is still recognizable and the gold shimmers magnificently, as intended in antiquity.
This framed specimen measures ~12.25" x 8.5".
It was on display at the Prehistoria Museum until it was deaccessioned to raise funds for exhibit renovations.
